Non-Objective 2D Design
Experiment with different charcoal techniques by creating a non-objective or abstract design. In this design you will choose one composition type and incorporate multiple elements of art and principles of design.
Artworks created by students in Mrs. Scott's class
Create thumbnail sketches using 4 different composition types
Choose one type and create 4 different variations including principles of design
Develop final composition by adding elements of art using charcoal (final paper size will vary)
Tips to Remember:
Edge Shield: For solid tone apply charcoal next to shield; for gradient and 3D effect apply charcoal on shield and pull it onto the paper; make sure to lift and peel shield (don't slide!)
Be careful, impressed "ghost lines" are PERMANENT!
Reductive: Use kneaded eraser to remove charcoal in large areas (helps show gradient); use vinyl eraser to show more detailed texture
